BUSIA, Kenya — The Ministry of Gender has affirmed that it is actively overseeing the response to a reported incident in Busia County, where a young male driver along the Kisumu–Busia Highway was allegedly scalded with hot water by his spouse.
In a statement, Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo said: “Gender-based violence, whether against men or women, boys or girls, is a serious violation of human rights and a grave assault on human dignity.
The Ministry condemns such acts in the strongest terms and reiterates that no one is exempt from protection, justice and support.”
The Ministry is coordinating with law enforcement, health services, and other relevant agencies to ensure a full and thorough investigation is conducted.

Cheptumo stressed that the survivor will receive immediate medical and psychosocial care, while the alleged perpetrator will be held accountable under Kenyan law.
“The Government remains unwavering in its commitment to preventing and eliminating all forms of gender-based violence and to safeguarding the rights and dignity of every individual in our country,” she added.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges around gender-based violence in Kenya, including cases affecting men, and underscores the need for awareness, prevention, and enforcement of legal protections.
