NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives have arrested a suspended civil servant accused of forging official government documents, including a letter purporting to recommend candidates for police recruitment.
Maroa Sammy Maroa, an economist attached to the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, was arrested in Ngoigwa, Thika West Sub-county, after investigators tracked him down following days of evasion.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Maroa presented a forged letter to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), allegedly sanctioned by a senior government official and listing “state-recommended” recruits.
DCI said the suspect, who is already on suspension, is facing another ongoing case at the Kahawa Law Courts over allegations of forging a letter promoting himself to Director and transferring himself to the State Department for Housing.
Investigators said Maroa switched off his known phone numbers after learning he was under pursuit, but intelligence teams eventually traced him to his hideout.
He was arrested and taken to a police station, where he is expected to face fresh charges.
In a statement, the DCI warned members of the public against attempts to exploit government processes through forged documents, saying such schemes are routinely uncovered by security agencies.
The police noted that the case highlighted growing concerns over document fraud within public institutions and urged vigilance in verifying official communications.
