EACC Arrests Mombasa Court Assistant Over Sh10,000 Bribery Allegation

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a court assistant attached to the Mombasa Law Courts over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to interfere with a criminal case.

The suspect, identified as Ben Wambua Muthoka, is accused of demanding Sh10,000 from a complainant in exchange for concealing or withholding a court file in an ongoing case where the complainant is an accused person.

The alleged act was aimed at delaying or frustrating the judicial process.

According to EACC, the complaint was reported on March 13, 2026, prompting preliminary investigations that confirmed the bribery demand.

Detectives later mounted an operation on March 17, leading to Muthoka’s arrest as he reportedly received the money.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to the Commission’s Lower Coast Regional Office in Mombasa for processing before being detained overnight at Central Police Station.

He has since been released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 as investigations continue.

The anti-graft agency reaffirmed its commitment to tackling corruption at service delivery points, urging members of the public to report incidents of bribery and unethical conduct within public institutions.
