NAIROBI, Kenya- Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana and his wife, former television journalist Mwanaisha Chidzuga, are mourning the death of their eight-year-old daughter, Amal Mghoi.
Amal died on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while undergoing treatment, according to information shared following her death.
Further details about her illness and the hospital where she was receiving treatment were not immediately disclosed.
President William Ruto led Kenyans in comforting the family, describing Amal’s death as an immeasurable loss.
“My heartfelt condolences to Senator Danson Mungatana and your dear wife, Mwanaisha Chidzuga, following the untimely passing of your beloved daughter, Amal Mghoi,” Ruto said.
The President said he was joining the family, friends and everyone who knew Amal in mourning a young life lost too soon.
“The loss of a child is a sorrow beyond measure. At this profoundly difficult moment, I join your family, friends and all who knew and loved Amal in mourning a young life taken far too soon,” he said.
Ruto prayed for strength and comfort for the senator, his wife and their family as they confront the loss.
“May God grant you and your family strength, comfort and peace, and may Amal’s soul rest in eternal peace,” the President said.
Messages of condolence continued to reach the family following confirmation of Amal’s death.
Mungatana is serving his first term as Tana River senator after winning the seat in the 2022 General Election. He previously represented Garsen Constituency in the National Assembly and served as an assistant minister.
