NAIROBI, Kenya- The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) staged major rallies in Othaya and Mathioya constituencies on Sunday, stepping up its grassroots mobilisation across the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The rallies in Othaya, Nyeri County, and Kiriaini town in Mathioya, Murang’a County, attracted large crowds as the party sought to demonstrate its growing political influence in the region.
DCP Secretary-General designate and Nyandarua Senator John Methu led the campaign in the absence of party leader Rigathi Gachagua, who is on a tour of the United States.
The delegation began its programme at ACK Witima Church in Othaya before addressing residents in Othaya town and later travelling to Kiriaini for another rally.
The Othaya visit carried political significance for the party. It came months after a church service attended by Gachagua at ACK Witima was disrupted by violence and tear gas, forcing worshippers and political leaders to flee.
Methu was accompanied by Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Senators John Kinyua, Kamau Murango, Karungo Thang’wa, Joe Nyutu and Ole Seki, alongside other DCP leaders and aspirants.
Addressing supporters, Methu maintained the party’s campaign against President William Ruto’s re-election and declared that the DCP would continue mobilising voters across the country.
He dismissed President Ruto’s recent emotional appeals while addressing Kenyans, insisting that the party remained focused on making him a one-term president.
“Cry milk or blood, you are still a one-term president,” Methu said, according to remarks reported during the rally.
Governor Kang’ata hosted the DCP delegation in Murang’a and joined party leaders in addressing the Kiriaini gathering. He shared footage of the rally, describing it as a DCP public engagement in Mathioya.
From the United States, Gachagua celebrated the reception accorded to his team, saying the rallies reflected support for the party’s push for political change.
“We are committed to working diligently to bring positive change through a new dispensation that upholds the rule of law and leads the fight against corruption from the front,” Gachagua said.
“Kenyans have collectively expressed their desire for change, and it is only a matter of time before this change is realised.”
He thanked Kiriaini residents for listening to the party’s message and pledging their support for its campaign to form the next government.
“Asanteni sana Kiriaini, Mathioya Constituency, in Murang’a County, for listening to the DCP team and pledging your support to our party in forming the next government. Eyes on the ball,” he said.
Gachagua also praised the turnout in Othaya, describing the constituency as an important economic centre on the slopes of the Aberdare Range.
“Othaya, your response was truly remarkable when my team reached out,” he said.
“Thank you very much, Othaya, for your unwavering support and for heeding the call from my team led by DCP Party SG Senator John Methu. Forward We Move!”
The twin rallies strengthened Methu’s increasingly visible role in managing DCP’s grassroots activities while Gachagua remains abroad. The senator has led similar mobilisation tours in Nairobi, Nakuru and other parts of the country.
The Othaya and Mathioya meetings also underline the intensifying political battle for Mt Kenya, with DCP seeking to consolidate the region behind Gachagua while President Ruto and his allies mount their own campaign to retain its support.
