LONDON, United Kingdom- Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are moving their two children to another school in Britain after security concerns emerged over their daily journey, the couple’s spokesperson has confirmed.
Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, attended the original school for only two days before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to move them.
The decision followed discussions with the family’s security team about the distance between their home and the school, as well as heavy traffic along the route.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” the spokesperson said.
“The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family.”
The spokesperson stressed that the move was not connected to the quality of the school or the treatment Archie and Lilibet received there.
“This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there,” the spokesperson added.
The locations of the family’s new home and the schools involved have not been disclosed to protect their privacy and security.
According to reports, the security team experienced difficulty keeping the family’s vehicles together while travelling through heavy traffic. The school had reportedly been assessed before the term began, but the practical challenges of the daily journey only became clear when classes resumed.
Harry, the younger son of King Charles III, relocated to Britain with Meghan and their children in August after the family had lived in California for about six years.
The Duke and Duchess stepped down as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020 before moving to North America. They are not living in a royal residence following their return and continue to be classified as non-working royals.
Their return has renewed attention on the security arrangements provided to the family in Britain.
Harry has repeatedly criticised the British government’s decision to withdraw the automatic taxpayer-funded police protection he received when he was a working royal.
A separate security arrangement has been used during his visits to the country.
The couple’s protection is currently under review.
A British government committee is reviewing Harry’s security arrangements, while Meghan’s position is also being reassessed for the first time since the couple left royal duties.
