MOMBASA, Kenya — ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir has said the Coast region remains united and focused as leaders begin consultations on the region’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the Coastal Salute event in Kikambala, Kilifi County, Nassir said Coast leaders are engaging in sober, inclusive discussions aimed at safeguarding unity and advancing the interests of the region.
“The Coast is speaking with one voice,” Nassir said, adding that consultations are being conducted respectfully and with political maturity.
He singled out Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho for praise, describing him as a son of the Coast whose leadership has helped anchor regional cohesion during a period of political reflection and transition.

Nassir reaffirmed that his political position remains within the broad-based government framework established under the leadership of the late Raila Odinga, saying this was the political path on which the ODM founding leader left the party and its partners.
“As a region, we are consulting within ourselves on our political direction going into 2027,” he said, noting that the discussions are guided by the welfare of Coast residents rather than short-term political interests.
The ODM deputy leader stressed that any future political engagement must align with the party’s core principles, including respect for devolution, transparency in governance, and accountability to citizens.
“We must work with those who share our values and who believe in strengthening devolution, upholding accountability, and listening to the people,” Nassir said.
