Crowds Stream into Nyayo Stadium as Kenya Marks 62 Years of Independence

NAIROBI, Kenya – Thousands of Kenyans flocked to the Nyayo National Stadium early Thursday as the country marked its 62nd Jamhuri Day, a national celebration commemorating Kenya’s independence.

President William Ruto is expected to preside over the event, which has drawn both local and international guests, including Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, who jetted into Nairobi shortly after midnight to attend the ceremony as the chief guest.

This year’s celebration is themed “Tourism and Wildlife”, a nod to Kenya’s globally acclaimed natural attractions and the country’s ongoing efforts to boost conservation and tourism recovery.

Government officials say the theme aims to spotlight the role of tourism in economic growth and reaffirm Kenya’s commitment to protecting its wildlife heritage.

Security has been heightened in and around the stadium as thousands of attendees continue to stream in for the day-long festivities.
