NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives in Uasin Gishu County have arrested three men suspected to be members of a violent criminal gang linked to a series of armed robberies, recovering an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of ammunition.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects are key persons of interest in several serious crimes committed across the county.
The DCI said the arrests followed a coordinated intelligence-led operation involving detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), the Operations Unit at DCI Headquarters, and officers based in Uasin Gishu.
“Residents of Uasin Gishu County can finally breathe a sigh of relief after detectives arrested three suspected members of a violent criminal gang and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of ammunition,” the agency said.

According to investigators, the suspects are believed to be part of a ruthless gang that has been terrorising residents through armed robberies and other violent crimes.
Linked to past attacks
Investigations have connected the trio to several incidents, including a chilling attack on November 22, 2025, in which a family was reportedly held hostage at gunpoint, robbed of their vehicle, and forced to transfer money from their mobile wallets.
Further inquiries revealed that the same gang was also involved in a robbery with violence that led to the killing of Richard Rotich, a pharmacist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, on January 7, 2026.
Detectives said the gang is known to operate using fraudulently acquired identities to evade arrest.
Records also show that one of the suspects has a long criminal history, having previously been implicated in an attempted robbery case reported at Eldoret Police Station in 2011 and a robbery with violence case at Langas Police Station in 2017.
The suspect is also reported to have escaped from lawful custody at Eldoret Police Station in 2012 and later escaped from Eldoret Court in 2014.
The DCI said the three suspects are currently being processed for arraignment as investigations continue. Detectives are also pursuing other members of the gang who remain at large.
“The three suspects are currently being processed for arraignment in court as investigations continue. Efforts to track down and arrest other gang members have been intensified,” the agency said.
