NANYUKI, Kenya- The DCI Shooting Team showcased exceptional skill and precision at the 87th Kenya Open Full-Bore Championship, held at the Kenya Defence Forces Rifle Range in Nanyuki, with team members securing multiple trophies and top positions.
The week-long competition, which began on February 16, attracted elite marksmen from the National Police Service, Kenya Defence Forces, and the Chalbi Shooting Club, all vying for individual glory and coveted spots at the upcoming UK Bisley Championships.
Michael Gitonga emerged as the overall champion, claiming the title with an impressive 274 points across distances ranging from 300m to 900m.

Gitonga maintained a commanding lead from the preliminary rounds through to the final Championship Shoot, finishing ahead of Moses Wachira of Chalbi Shooting Club, who scored 272 points.
Chief Inspector Sanford Otundo from the National Police Service rounded out the podium with 268 points.

Under the leadership of Captain Francis Kinyua, the DCI team added several trophies to their collection. Chief Inspector Julius Kimani earned the prestigious Nation Media Cup for his pinpoint accuracy, while Inspector Ken Maithima claimed both the A.O. Roberts and McCullum trophies.
Corporal Dennis Kairu also shone, securing the A.O. Roberts Cup after a hard-fought contest.
Inspector Philip Kipchumba from the DCI’s Banking Fraud Unit, a veteran of the UK Bisley and South African Championships, added the Bob Morgan Memorial Cup to the team’s haul, demonstrating composure and skill under pressure.

Speaking after the competition, Muriuki Raaria, Staffing Officer Personnel I, lauded the team’s performance, encouraging them to maintain their excellence into the new shooting season.
The event was further highlighted by the participation of Benjamin Solzër and Aleksandra Solzër from Germany, adding an international dimension to the championship.
The DCI Shooting Team’s triumphs at Nanyuki reflect their dedication, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence, signaling a promising season ahead for the squad.
