CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland – Several people have been killed and others injured following an explosion at the Constellation Bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, police have confirmed.
The blast occurred at 01:30 local time (00:30 GMT) during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Authorities said a helpline has been set up for families of those affected.
Fire and Unverified Footage
Videos circulating on social media appear to show flames inside the bar, though police said the footage remains unverified. Witnesses reported chaos as revellers fled the scene, with emergency services rushing to contain the fire.
Swiss outlet Blick suggested fireworks during a concert may have triggered the blaze, but police stressed the cause remains unknown.
Police Response
A spokesperson for the Valais Cantonal Police said investigations are ongoing and further updates will be issued. Asked about fatalities, the spokesman said only: “We can’t say yet. Several.”

Crans-Montana, located in the Valais region of the Swiss Alps, is a luxury ski resort popular with international tourists, including many from Britain. The town boasts 87 miles of trails and is scheduled to host the FIS World Cup speed skiing event at the end of January.
