NAIROBI, Kenya – Prominent lawyer Donald Kipkorir has invited members of the public to help him identify a cancer charity or government hospital cancer department to receive the Sh1 million compensation he was recently awarded by the High Court.
In a heartfelt post on X, Kipkorir said the donation is in honour of his late mother, who succumbed to stomach cancer two years ago.
“Due to the overwhelming response on my intended donation to a Cancer Charity, I need the public to nominate for me a worthy charity organization or government hospital cancer department,” he wrote.
“It has to be a cancer charity that assists the poor. Or a cancer department of a government hospital.”

The call for nominations came after the High Court ordered Muthaiga Country Club (MCC) to pay Kipkorir Sh1 million for violating his constitutional rights by unlawfully denying him entry despite being invited by a member.
Justice Chacha Mwita ruled on November 7 that the club’s decision was discriminatory and unconstitutional, adding that private institutions must still respect fundamental rights under Article 20(1) of the Constitution.
Kipkorir, who represented himself in the case, said his decision to donate the compensation is inspired by his mother’s battle with cancer — a struggle that took them from local hospitals to India and Qatar, leaving him emotionally and financially drained.
“My Mama suffered & died from stomach cancer two years ago… The medical bills I paid were debilitating & I didn’t receive support from government or anyone,” he said.
He also revealed that some of his friends have pledged to match his donation, potentially increasing the amount that will go toward helping needy cancer patients.
Kipkorir’s appeal has sparked conversation online, with many Kenyans praising his generosity and suggesting institutions such as Kenyatta National Hospital’s Oncology Department, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, and Faraja Cancer Support Trust.
The Nairobi lawyer said he would consider all suggestions before making a final decision on which organization will benefit.
