EACC Summons Senior Government Official Over Sh1 Billion Asset and Procurement Probe

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned a senior government official to record a statement as investigations intensify into suspected irregular asset acquisition and procurement practices valued at about Sh1 billion.

According to a requisition dated January 8, 2026, the official was directed to appear before EACC investigators at the Integrity Centre Police Station on January 9, 2026, at 9 a.m.

The summons was issued under Section 52 of the National Police Service Act.

The Commission said it has reason to believe the official may be in possession of information relevant to the ongoing inquiry.

Documentation shows the summons was formally received and acknowledged.

The move follows a search operation conducted earlier the same day at the official’s residence and office, as part of a wider review of allegations touching on graft, procurement processes and the accumulation of assets whose value is estimated at approximately Sh1 billion.

EACC officials indicated that the investigation period spans January 1, 2021, to January 8, 2026, and includes scrutiny of procurement decisions made during the official’s previous tenure in the public sector.

Materials recovered during the search are now undergoing forensic and documentary analysis to determine the appropriate next steps under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act (ACECA).

In a clarification, the Commission stressed that no charges have been filed, noting that the summons is part of standard investigative procedures aimed at gathering information.

EACC said any further action will depend on the outcome of the review and the evidence established.

Where applicable, possible measures under ACECA may include recommending prosecution, initiating forfeiture proceedings for unexplained wealth, or seeking confiscation of assets linked to corruption.
