Embu Senator Donates 10 Computers to Kirigi Secondary

EMBU, Kenya- In a major boost to digital education in Embu County, Embu County Senator Alexander Munyi Mundigi has donated 10 computers to Kirigi Secondary School in Ruguru-Ngandori Ward, Manyatta Constituency.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Senator Mundigi said the computers were purchased using his personal resources to support digital learning and the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.

“Today I came to Kirigi Secondary School to issue 10 computers which I purchased using my personal resources. This is in an effort to enhance the CBE education system and support the Grade 10 transition,” said Senator Mundigi.

He added that the initiative is part of a broader plan to equip more schools across Embu County with ICT tools.

“I intend to give out more computers to other schools within Embu County to nsure all Grade 10 learners and other secondary school students have a smooth learning process,” he stated.

The Senator also revealed that he engaged Kenya Power through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to support the establishment of a computer lab at the school.

“I took the initiative to engage Kenya Power through their Corporate Social Responsibility programme to support the establishment of a computer lab at the school. I sincerely thank Kenya Power for partnering with us to promote digital learning and expand opportunities for our students,” he said.

Beyond the school, Mundigi donated four computers to Kiruari CBO in Ngandori South, as well as two computers and ten seats to Manyatta Compassionate Kitty Group to strengthen digital literacy and improve operational capacity within the community.

“These initiatives will open new doors for our learners and community groups, strengthen digital literacy, and improve service delivery in the region. I will continue investing in education, embracing technology, and improving learning infrastructure across Embu County to ensure every child and community is empowered,” he concluded.

Senator Mundigi further urged leaders across Embu County, development partners, and well-wishers to join hands in supporting schools and community institutions through similar initiatives. 

He emphasized that collaborative efforts are key to accelerating digital transformation and ensuring equitable access to quality education for all learners.

On her part, Kirigi Secondary School Principal Margaret Wanja Simba expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it comes at a crucial time when ICT integration is a key requirement in the education system.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank Senator Mundigi and Kenya Power for donating these computers to us. They will enhance digital literacy among our learners and also benefit the wider community,” said Wanja.

She further emphasized the importance of ICT under the current curriculum reforms.

“The CBC and CBE education systems require learners to have digital literacy. The Ministry of Education has emphasized ICT as one of the key learning areas. This is a blessing to us because the computers have come at the right time when the system has introduced ICT as a subject,” she added.
