Pamela Njoki Leads Countywide Drought Relief for Embu Families

Date:

EMBU, Kenya- Embu Woman Representative Pamela Njoki has rolled out an extensive relief food distribution exercise across Embu County, targeting vulnerable households affected by the prolonged drought that has left many families facing severe food shortages.

On Tuesday, the Woman Rep successfully distributed food items to needy households in Mwea Ward (Kamweli and Nthinginí), Makima Ward (Gikuru and Mashamba), Mavuria Ward (Nyangwa), and Mbeti South Ward (Rwika) in Mbeere South Constituency.

The exercise was carried out in close collaboration with local administrators and community leaders to ensure fairness, transparency, and dignity for beneficiaries.

Speaking during the exercise, Njoki said the initiative is aimed at cushioning families during the harsh drought period and protecting children from the ripple effects of hunger.

“This program is meant to ensure our communities stay fed during this drought season and that families with school-going children do not miss school due to lack of food,” she said.

Later in the evening, the Woman Representative visited elderly residents of Kathúri Village in Mbeti North, fulfilling a promise she had made after they appealed for foodstuffs and warm blankets during a recent burial ceremony.

She also responded to a distress call in Nduuri Village, Runyenjes, where she supported a family whose house was destroyed by fire, providing food supplies, mattresses, and blankets.

On Wednesday, the relief drive continued in Mbeere North Constituency, reaching vulnerable families in Ithata Slum, Kianamú, Kirie, Kiang’ombe, Kamarandi, and Muthanthara.

Many households in these areas are struggling to meet basic needs due to the ongoing dry spell, which is interrupting a critical lifeline.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting lives, Njoki emphasized that no Kenyan should suffer or die due to hunger.

“The government is committed to ensuring its people are well taken care of, and that no lives are lost as a result of lack of food, especially during this drought season,” she said.

The ongoing relief food distribution program primarily targets low-income households, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and other at-risk groups, particularly in the semi-arid parts of Embu County.

The initiative underscores Njoki’s hands-on leadership approach, focused on listening, responding, and delivering tangible support to communities in times of need, as humanitarian efforts continue across the county to mitigate the effects of drought-induced food insecurity.
