ENDEBESS, Kenya — Detectives in Endebess have arrested Mike Wabwire Semera, the prime suspect in the brutal killing of 17-year-old Rael Cheptoek Kaboi, a Form Four student at Nai Girls Secondary School. The killing occurred on January 30, 2026, in the Mowlem area, Kiptogot location.
The alarm was raised early that morning after residents discovered Rael’s lifeless body on a nearby farm, approximately 700 metres from her mother’s home.
Officers from Endebess Police Station responded promptly and found the teenager’s body showing clear signs of assault. The scene was documented before the body was taken to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital for preservation and a pending autopsy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Rael had left home at 5:45 a.m. to attend school, just under a kilometre away. She was discovered around 6:30 a.m. by fellow pupils en route to class.
Following intelligence leads, detectives traced Semera to the Kenya–Uganda Suam border. A joint operation with Ugandan authorities resulted in his arrest after he fled across the border following the crime.
Semera has since been returned to Endebess and is in custody at the police station, undergoing processing ahead of arraignment. Investigators continue to probe the motive behind the killing.
The DCI said the arrest highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation in solving violent crimes and ensuring swift justice.
