2027 Elections: ‘Tuko Kadi’ Drive Gains Momentum as Youth Flood IEBC Centres

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Hundreds of young Kenyans have thronged voter registration centres in Nairobi and across the country as the ‘Tuko Kadi’ campaign gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

At the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headquarters at Anniversary Towers, long queues of young people were observed, with many determined to secure their voter cards despite delays and logistical challenges.

The youth-led mobilisation drive, largely powered by Gen Z, has sparked a nationwide surge in voter registration, with thousands of first-time voters turning up to participate in shaping the country’s future.

Organisers say the movement is aimed at reversing years of voter apathy among young people, encouraging them to take an active role in governance and decision-making.

The initiative has quickly gained traction on social media, where young Kenyans are sharing their registration journeys under the “Tuko Kadi” slogan.

In Nairobi and other towns such as Thika and Nyeri, IEBC centres have reported increased activity, with registration numbers exceeding expectations.

The campaign has also spread to counties like Narok, where both youth and older residents have turned up in large numbers to register, signalling a broader shift towards civic engagement.

“Youth are ready for the 2027 elections,” one of the participants said, echoing the growing sentiment among young voters eager to influence leadership and policy direction.

The ongoing exercise is part of the continuous voter registration programme that began in September 2025, now boosted by renewed energy from grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Analysts say the surge in youth participation could significantly shape the outcome of the next general election, with young voters forming a critical voting bloc in Kenya’s electoral landscape.
