NAIROBI, Kenya- Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has declared that he is ready to become Kenya’s president, while saying his political relationship with President William Ruto broke down after he refused to participate in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Nyoro said he had spent time reflecting, consulting and praying after falling out with the Kenya Kwanza administration, and had concluded that governing the country required a different level of preparedness.
“I don’t believe there is a person more prepared in Kenya to lead this country than Ndindi Nyoro,” he said during a live interview on Citizen TV.
Nyoro said that if given the opportunity to lead, he would introduce free basic education in all day secondary schools within three months.
“In terms of being prepared, I am prepared to be anything, including the president of Kenya,” he said, adding that the challenges facing the country required political leaders to work together.
His remarks come amid growing debate over political divisions in the Mount Kenya region and speculation about the 2027 presidential race.
Nyoro rejected claims that his political activities were aimed at dividing the region, saying he had not heard any leader directly accuse his party of doing so.
“If they do, I will come out and defend it,” he said.
He also said opposition leaders, including those in the Democratic Congress Party (DCP), had congratulated him and maintained that political differences should not be allowed to create divisions between people.
“It is important that we do not try to make brothers fight where there is no fight,” Nyoro said.
The Kiharu MP also described himself as part of the opposition, saying he speaks to opposition leaders almost daily.
“I am part of the opposition,” he said.
Nyoro said several opposition parties had previously expressed interest in having him join their ranks and even take up leadership positions.
He said his break with the Ruto administration had happened “a long time ago”, although he had initially avoided what he described as “octane politics”.
The former Budget Committee chairman also opened up about his fallout with Ruto, saying his decision not to participate in Gachagua’s impeachment became a major point of tension.
Nyoro said his last direct conversation with Ruto centred on his refusal to take part in the impeachment.
He claimed some colleagues later told him that Ruto was unhappy with him for not seeking to repair their relationship.
“He could tell them, ‘huyo kijana ni kiburi kwa sababu haendi kubembeleza’,” Nyoro said.
Nyoro also criticised the government over economic and governance issues, including the management of the country’s debt and alleged interference in strategic sectors.
He claimed that Ruto had realised he would leave office and was therefore making the country difficult to govern for the next administration.
Nyoro also said he had raised concerns about the government’s handling of Turkana oil and what he described as patronage involving cement companies.
“I have spoken about the President of Kenya being involved in the taking over of Turkana oil,” he said, adding that he had also questioned alleged attempts by the country’s leadership to take over cement companies.
