EMBU, Kenya- The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that by-elections in Evurore and Muminji wards will be held on February 26, 2026, with preparations underway to ensure a smooth and credible voting process.
The commission announced that Evurore Ward will operate 67 polling stations serving 26,393 registered voters, while Muminji Ward will have 26 polling stations for 9,846 registered voters. All polling stations are scheduled to open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m.
In a message released on the IEBC X account by the Returning Officer for the Evurore and Muminji ward by-elections, James Maingi underscored the importance of adhering to electoral laws.
“Candidates and political parties are urged to follow the electoral code of conduct during the election period,” the commission said, stressing that compliance is key to maintaining order and public confidence in the process.
The commission also called on residents of both wards to take part actively in the democratic exercise.
“Voters are encouraged to remain peaceful and turn out in large numbers to elect leaders of their choice,” Maingi stated.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the commission said it is working closely with all relevant stakeholders to guarantee a credible process.
“The IEBC remains open to engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure the by-elections are free, fair, transparent, and credible,” Maingi added.
Security agencies and election observers are expected to be deployed across polling centers to safeguard the integrity of the vote, as local communities prepare for a contest set to shape grassroots leadership in the two wards.
