NAIROBI, Kenya- Detectives have arrested a man suspected to be at the centre of a counterfeit currency racket in Nairobi, recovering a large consignment of fake US dollars during an intelligence-led operation in the Lucky Summer area.
Officers from Lucky Summer Police Station intercepted a white Toyota Prado, registration number KDQ 401U, believed to be ferrying counterfeit currency.
The vehicle was stopped during a routine operation, leading to the arrest of the driver, 38-year-old Felix Nyegesa.
A search of the vehicle raised suspicion after officers discovered a locked metallic blue box concealed in the boot.

Nyegesa declined to open the box when requested, prompting detectives to escort him to the police station for further interrogation.
Upon opening the box at the station, officers recovered 68 bundles of counterfeit US dollar notes, each bundle containing 100 fake $100 bills.
Also found inside were cartons, newspapers, cotton wool, sand and stones—items police believe were used to disguise the weight and appearance of genuine currency.
Nyegesa remains in police custody as detectives intensify investigations to establish the source of the counterfeit money and identify other members of the suspected syndicate.
Police say he will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
