Happyland School Denies Cover-Up Claims in Teacher Defilement Case

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Happyland Preparatory School in Buruburu has dismissed claims of a cover-up following allegations that a teacher defiled a Grade 9 learner, saying the institution acted swiftly and in line with the law once the incident was reported.

In a statement issued by its management, the school said misinformation circulating online has misrepresented both the incident and the school’s response, insisting that learner safety remains its top priority.

The school, which has operated for over three decades, said allegations that it attempted to shield the suspect are false and damaging.

“Happyland Preparatory School wishes to address an incident involving one of our learners and to clarify certain misinformation currently circulating in the public domain,” the statement said.

According to the administration, the teacher at the centre of the allegations was a recent hire who had joined the institution on January 12, 2026, and had been at the school for less than three weeks when the alleged incident occurred.

The school said it was deeply disturbed by the allegations and moved immediately after learning of the matter.

Management stated that the incident is reported to have occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Upon being notified, the school said it escorted the suspect to a police station without delay, while the learner was rushed to a medical facility for examination and care.

“The matter is currently being handled through the appropriate legal channels and is before the court,” the statement noted, adding that the school has fully cooperated with investigators.

Happyland Preparatory School also said it has remained in contact with the affected learner and family, offering support while respecting their privacy.

The institution reiterated that it does not tolerate abuse in any form and remains committed to child protection, lawful investigations and safeguarding the dignity of learners and the wider school community.

The school appealed to the public and media to avoid spreading unverified information as the case proceeds through the justice system.

“We respectfully request that the privacy and rights of the learner involved be protected while the legal process takes its course,” the statement said.
