NAKURU, Kenya — Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives have seized heroin worth Sh1.19 million and arrested a suspected trafficker during a swift, intelligence-led operation in Nakuru County.
The suspect, 42-year-old Ephantus Kariuki Mwangi, was apprehended while riding a motorcycle (Reg. No. KMEC 785W) carrying luggage that raised suspicion among detectives.
A subsequent search revealed 397 grams of heroin, carefully concealed for transport. Authorities also recovered two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes, believed to be linked to the ongoing drug supply chain.
According to the DCI, the arrest disrupted what investigators believe was an active drug trafficking operation targeting local communities.

“The DCI remains firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency collaboration. We maintain zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, and will ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all,” the statement read.
Kariuki is currently in police custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of his arraignment. Authorities stress that the operation reflects a continued focus on intelligence-driven crackdowns against narcotics supply and distribution across the country.
This seizure comes amid ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to combat drug trafficking, emphasizing proactive interventions and community safety.
