Isiolo Court Jails Man for Two Years Over Illegal Possession of Commercial Detonators

Date:

ISIOLO, Kenya – A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for illegally possessing commercial electric detonators at a roadblock in Isiolo.

Ibrahim Ali Kalla was found with the explosives, disguised as personal items, at the Archer’s Post multi-agency checkpoint on January 26, 2023.

He was arrested and handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) for further investigation.

Kalla was arraigned on February 6, 2023, pleaded not guilty, and was released on a Sh200,000 bond or a Sh100,000 cash bail.

During the trial, prosecutors presented eight witnesses whose testimonies formed the basis of the case against him.

On December 19, 2025, the court ruled Kalla guilty and cancelled his bond.

Yesterday, January 7, 2026, the trial Magistrate, Maureen Odhiambo, imposed a Sh200,000 fine.

Failure to pay the fine will see him serve the two-year prison term.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated that the possession of commercial electric detonators without authorization is illegal and punishable under Kenyan law, urging the public to comply with regulations.
