ISIOLO, Kenya – The family of senior National Police Reservist (NPR) officer Malele Abdi Hassan is demanding answers from the government after he was allegedly abducted last week in Isiolo County.
According to relatives, Malele went missing on Saturday, December 20, after three masked men reportedly seized him while he was riding his motorcycle home at around 5:30 p.m. Since then, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Ajuran Clan Chairman Adan Mohamud Yessir confirmed the incident, saying the disappearance has left the family and community in fear and uncertainty.
“After the incident was reported at Isiolo Police Station and the DCI, police officers came to his house and collected his official firearm. This raises serious questions. The government must be aware of what is happening,” he said.
Family members allege that the abduction may have been coordinated by security agencies, whom they accuse of failing to act decisively. They insist Malele was never involved in unlawful businesses that could have exposed him to threats.
“He was never involved in any unlawful acts that could have led to his abduction; that was just a random arrest, according to us,” a relative said.
Malele had been serving as a senior NPR officer in charge of Burat location since his appointment, and was also known for his dedication to community security.
The family claims that immediately after reporting his disappearance, security agencies arrived at his home to collect his gun without offering any explanation.
“The abduction of Malele is likely to have been conducted by the government because after reporting his disappearance, they came immediately to collect his gun; they did not care about him,” another family member said.
