NAIROBI, Kenya — The nation was plunged into shock on Saturday, 28 February 2026, when Johana Ng’eno, the three-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, died in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, that claimed the lives of six people.

Career before Politics
Before entering elective politics, Ng’eno served as a Director at the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) between 2008 and 2012, where he gained experience in public administration and agricultural development.
Political Journey
Ng’eno first won the parliamentary seat for Emurua Dikirr in 2013 and held it through successive elections in 2017 and 2022, representing his constituents for three consecutive terms.
He ran under different political banners, aligning with KNC, KANU, and ultimately the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In the National Assembly, Ng’eno was a well-known legislator noted for his vocal and sometimes controversial approach to politics. He served on several key committees, including:
- Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works, where he played a significant role in legislative oversight, including work related to the Affordable Housing Act and national budget policy reviews.
- Member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and the Public Investments Committee in earlier terms.
Peers described him as a leader deeply engaged with development policy and legislative oversight, often pushing for stronger governance and resource allocation for underserved regions.
Reputation and Leadership Style
Ng’eno was known as a focused, fearless, and outspoken leader. President William Ruto described him as a “progressive and devoted servant of the people” who worked tirelessly for his constituents, especially in promoting local talent and justice. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also hailed him as a courageous and committed leader.
His leadership on parliamentary committees showcased his commitment to policy and legislation that affected urban planning, housing access, and national development priorities.
Tragic End
Ng’eno’s life and political career were cut short when the AS350 helicopter (registration 5Y-DSB) he was traveling in crashed in Chepkiep, Mosop Sub-County, Nandi County on Saturday afternoon amid heavy rain and challenging flying conditions.
The aircraft burst into flames, killing all six occupants on board.
Authorities, including the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, with a formal inquiry underway to determine what led to the fatal accident.
