THIKA, Kenya — Muslim service personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces based at Thika Barracks have donated assorted foodstuffs to inmates at Thika Main Prison to support them during the holy month of Ramadan.
The food items, intended for iftar, the evening meal used by Muslims to break their fast, were handed over to the Deputy Officer in Charge of the facility, Julius Muli.
Muli expressed appreciation to the soldiers from the Engineers Brigade of the Kenya Army for the gesture, noting that the support would help inmates observing the fast during the sacred period.
“This is a kind gesture that demonstrates compassion and solidarity with those in correctional facilities during the holy month,” he said.
During the visit, Muslim leaders within the KDF encouraged the inmates to remain steadfast in their faith and observe the fasting period with patience, discipline, and hope.
They urged the prisoners to embrace perseverance and spiritual reflection, emphasising that faith and resilience can play an important role in personal transformation.
The officers also said the initiative forms part of a broader outreach programme organised by Muslim service personnel stationed at the camp.
According to the team, the outreach activities aim to support vulnerable members of the community and strengthen social bonds during the Ramadan period.
Ramadan is one of the most significant months in the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset while engaging in prayer, charity, and acts of compassion.
