KDF Officer Shoots Colleague During Guard Duty in Isiolo

ISIOLO, Kenya- Two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers are receiving medical treatment after a shooting incident at Kampi Ya Chumvi military camp, about 10 kilometres north of Isiolo town.

According to a police report seen by Y News, the incident occurred on 23 December 2025 at around 9:10 pm while the officers were on guard duty at the Motor Transport 88 servicing bay.

Corporal Amos Cheruiyot reportedly shot his colleague, Corporal Erick Nyakundi, in the stomach, thighs, and legs using an AK-47 rifle.

Cheruiyot allegedly attempted to take his own life immediately afterward.

The scene was processed by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, and the two injured officers were transported to Isiolo 78 Regional Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Police recovered the firearm used in the incident along with twelve out of fifteen expended cartridges, which will undergo ballistic examination.

Authorities are awaiting guidance from KDF command on the next steps.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and police have urged the public to allow the military and law enforcement authorities to conclude their inquiry.
