NAIROBI, Kenya — The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that a section of the Thika Superhighway at Juja Highpoint, near Centurion, will be partially closed over two weekends to facilitate milling and resurfacing works.
According to a notice issued on Thursday, the first closure will occur from Saturday, November 8 to Sunday, November 9, between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., while the second closure is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that Thika Superhighway will be partially closed at Juja Highpoint (Centurion) to enable milling and recarpeting of the carriageway,” the Authority stated.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution around the work areas and to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”
During the works, Nairobi-bound motorists have been advised to take Exit 15, enter the service lane near the Shell petrol station, and rejoin the highway at the Total petrol station.
Thika-bound motorists are advised to use Exit 15A, next to the Rubis petrol station, before rejoining the main carriageway at Centurion Highpoint Hotel, a few metres past Lexo petrol station.
KeNHA noted that the repairs are part of ongoing maintenance to enhance the quality and safety of the busy dual carriageway, which has been undergoing frequent upgrades in recent months.
Earlier this year, in February 2025, the Authority closed the same section for four days to allow the construction of a footbridge, following safety concerns raised by area residents. That closure caused heavy traffic disruptions, despite the availability of alternative routes.
Meanwhile, KeNHA said that a two-month partial closure remains in effect along Thika Road at Kihunguro in Ruiru, affecting both Nairobi- and Thika-bound service lanes.
The closure, which began on October 20 and runs until December 20, is meant to facilitate the construction of footbridge column bases and stub columns to improve pedestrian safety.
The Authority assured motorists that all works are being conducted within scheduled timelines and urged road users to plan their travel accordingly to minimise inconvenience.
