KeNHA Warns Motorists After Flooding on Mai Mahiu–Narok Road

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenya National Highways Authority has issued a traffic advisory for motorists using the Mai Mahiu–Suswa–Narok (B7) Road following recent flooding that disrupted movement along the busy corridor.

According to the authority, sections of the road near Kedong Ranch in Suswa were affected by heavy rains, leading to flooding and the accumulation of silt that temporarily made the route impassable.

Although the road has since been reopened after emergency clearance works, KeNHA warned that conditions remain unstable due to ongoing rains.

Motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly along the stretch between Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD) and Suswa Ranch, where residual effects of flooding continue to pose risks.

Drivers are also advised to avoid flooded sections, follow instructions from traffic police and marshals, and remain alert for possible flash floods or silt deposits that could affect visibility and vehicle control.

For those yet to begin their journeys, the authority recommended alternative routes, including the Ngong–Suswa Road and the Narok–Mau Narok–Nakuru (B18) Road, to ease congestion and enhance safety.

The B7 route is a critical transport link connecting Nairobi to Narok and the wider South Rift region, playing a key role in the movement of goods and passengers.

The advisory comes amid continued heavy rainfall across the country, with transport authorities warning that more disruptions could occur as weather conditions persist.
