NAIROBI, Kenya — Heavy overnight rainfall in parts of Nairobi has disrupted several flights operated by Kenya Airways, with some aircraft diverted as adverse weather conditions affected airport operations.
In a customer update issued on March 7, the national carrier said the downpour across Nairobi and its surrounding areas forced operational adjustments, affecting scheduled departures and arrivals at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The airline said several flights were diverted to Mombasa as a precaution during the severe weather conditions.
“The heavy overnight downpour in parts of Nairobi and its environs caused disruption to some of our scheduled flights. Due to the adverse weather conditions, some of our flights were also diverted to Mombasa,” the airline said in a statement.
Kenya Airways added that the disruptions have also affected a number of flights scheduled for later in the day.
Passengers travelling from JKIA have been advised that their flight schedules may change as the airline works to restore normal operations.
“Our teams are working hard to get everything back to normal as soon as possible,” the airline said.
The carrier apologised to customers for the inconvenience, noting that the disruption was caused by circumstances beyond its control.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused, which was out of our control. We expect to return to normal operations later this evening,” the statement added.
Travellers have been urged to confirm the status of their flights before heading to the airport by checking updates on the airline’s website.
Kenya Airways also encouraged customers to ensure their contact information is updated through the “Manage Booking” option to receive direct notifications on schedule changes.
For assistance, passengers can contact the airline’s customer support team via phone at +254 711 024 747, WhatsApp at +254 705 474 747, or through its support handle on X.
The airline said it continues to monitor the situation closely as weather conditions improve across the capital and airport operations gradually stabilise.
