Where the Rain Will Hit Hardest
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥50 mm) is expected in the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Highlands, including Nairobi, and the South-Eastern Lowlands.
- Moderate to heavy rainfall (20–50 mm) is forecast for Western Kenya and nearby areas.
- Moderate rainfall (5–20 mm) may affect parts of the South Coast and inland regions.
- Northern and northeastern counties are likely to see little to no rainfall during this period.
The rains are likely to cause localised flooding, especially in low-lying areas and poorly drained estates, while road users should anticipate reduced visibility and slippery conditions.
Rivers in flood-prone catchments are expected to rise, heightening risk for communities near waterways.
Safety First
KMD urges residents in affected areas to:
- Avoid crossing flooded roads or rivers.
- Stay updated through official channels for real-time forecasts.
- Take precautions in flood-prone communities, moving to higher ground where necessary.
Meteorologists say these showers are part of a broader wet spell expected to continue over several days, affecting key economic and urban centers.
Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, and other cities in the Rift Valley and Central Highlands are among the most vulnerable.
“Residents must remain alert and prepared,” said a KMD spokesperson. “Even moderate rains can lead to accidents and property damage if ignored.”
As Kenya braces for more rainfall, communities are reminded to prioritise safety over travel and follow updates from authorities.
