ISEBANIA, Kenya — Detectives at Isebania Police Station in Kuria West Sub-County have intercepted a vehicle carrying dangerous chemicals and explosives after it allegedly crossed into Kenya from Tanzania through the porous Nyang’iti border.
The vehicle, a white Toyota Probox, was abandoned by the driver on spotting police, who immediately launched a search operation.
Upon inspection, officers recovered 12 drums of Sodium Cyanide (50kg each) and two cartons of V6 Explogel explosives concealed in brown cartons.

The Kenya Police Service emphasized that the interception underscores their commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting the public from dangerous and illegal consignments.
Investigations are ongoing, as security agencies work to trace the origin of the chemicals and explosives and identify any networks involved in their transportation across the border.
Sodium Cyanide is a highly toxic chemical used legally in industrial processes such as gold mining, metal electroplating, and chemical manufacturing.
However, it is dangerous and can be fatal if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin.
In illegal operations, it has been used for unregulated gold extraction, wildlife poisoning, and other criminal activities.
V6 Explogel is a commercial blasting explosive commonly used in mining, quarrying, and infrastructure projects.
