KAMPALA, Uganda- A Uganda Prisons Service officer is on the run after allegedly shooting dead three people at Kiboga Prison in a shocking incident that has triggered a nationwide manhunt.

In a press release dated February 23, 2026, the Uganda Prisons Service said the shooting occurred at around 10:00am on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses, allegedly opened fire on his supervisors within the facility.
Victims Identified
Authorities named the deceased as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, who served as Deputy Officer in Charge, and Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, described as third in command at the facility.
Also killed was Ms Ayebare Sarah, the spouse of the Officer in Charge.
The incident occurred at Kiboga Prison, located in Kiboga District.
Suspect Flees, Weapon Recovered
Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled the prison premises.
Police were immediately called to secure the scene, and joint security teams have since been deployed to track him down.
Although officials confirmed that the firearm used in the attack has been recovered, the suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
Public Urged to Assist
The Uganda Prisons Service has urged members of the public with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the attack.
Investigations remain ongoing as security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend the suspect.
