Kindiki Defends Broad-Based Government, Says Nyanza Wants Development Over Opposition

Date:

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said residents of the Nyanza region are ready to move away from prolonged opposition politics and embrace participation in government to accelerate development.

Speaking in Homa Bay County, Kindiki argued that many ODM supporters now prefer inclusion in government structures to secure roads, electricity and other essential services.

“The people of Nyanza and ODM supporters are tired of opposition politics. They want to be in government so they can access development, roads, electricity and services. They are tired of staying outside government and fighting it,” he said.

Kindiki noted that the push for a broad-based arrangement was first championed by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he credited with initiating discussions on cooperation.

“That conversation was started by our leader Raila Odinga. He is the one who said ODM should be part of a broad-based framework,” Kindiki stated.

The Deputy President also backed several ODM leaders from the region who have expressed support for working with President William Ruto’s administration.

He publicly endorsed Governor Gladys Wanga, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Senator Moses Kajwang, among others.

“This is not about one side against the other. There is space for all communities in the broad-based administration. Every Kenyan has a stake in the government of the Republic of Kenya,” he said.

Kindiki linked the political cooperation to ongoing development projects in Homa Bay County. He announced that Sh3.3 billion has been allocated for the construction of the 60-kilometre Mfangano Island Ring Road in Suba South.

“The President has directed that Sh3.3 billion be released to tarmac the 60 kilometres around Mfangano Island to improve infrastructure in Suba South,” he said.

He further revealed that electricity connectivity projects worth Sh2 billion are underway in Homa Bay County, targeting 20,000 households.

“Through the broad-based partnership, projects worth two billion shillings are ongoing to connect 20,000 homes to electricity in Homa Bay County,” Kindiki added.

The Deputy President maintained that the broad-based approach is intended to fast-track development and promote inclusive governance across the country.
