NAKURU, Kenya — A fire that broke out in Lake View Estate on Tuesday afternoon spread into Lake Nakuru National Park, affecting the Honeymoon Hill area before being brought under control, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has said.
The blaze started at around 4:00 p.m. and was fully contained by 10:00 p.m. following a coordinated response involving KWS rangers, community members, the Nakuru City fire brigade, and officers from Bondeni Police Station.
KWS said the fire posed a significant risk due to dry conditions and strong winds, which can cause flames to spread rapidly during the dry season.

Authorities warned that such incidents threaten human life, wildlife, property and fragile ecosystems within protected areas.
According to the wildlife agency, fires in national parks destroy habitats, reduce grazing areas for animals and can increase human–wildlife conflict as animals are displaced from their natural environments.
No injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident.
KWS has urged members of the public to avoid lighting fires near protected areas, particularly during dry weather, and to report any outbreaks promptly to prevent damage to wildlife and the environment.
