NAIROBI, Kenya—Revered city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has defended Joseph Kairu Wambui, alias Khalif Kairo, a popular car marketer.
Khalif Kairo recently made headlines after being arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on allegations involving his business.
However, taking to his official X account (formerly Twitter), Ahmednasir, also known as Grand Mullah, said he doesn’t know Khalif Kairo even though he strongly defended him.
“Of course, I occasionally see him living in the fast lane on X. He has some small second-hand car business lately getting him into trouble,” Ahmednasir posted.
Why Ahmednasir Abdullahi took issue with Khalif Kairo’s distractors
Ahmednasir took a stab at Khalif Kairo’s critics, urging them to let the city businessman be.
“But it is sad to see some lowlifes rejoicing at his misfortunes. Good people, all types of businesses face challenges and difficult times. And this young man is facing business challenges,” he further wrote.

According to Ahmednasir, taking young aspiring Kenyans to court isn’t how to treat them when trying to make money in a difficult and hostile business environment.
“I’m willing to mediate between him and the complainant and resolve this matter amicably. I can help!” Ahmednasir stated.
Which offence was Khalif Kairo charged with before Milimani Law Courts
After being charged with fraud, Khalif Kairo denied on Monday, January 13, 2025, that he would flee Kenya if granted bail.
According to Khalif Kairo, represented by Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, the prosecution has not presented sufficient evidence to the court to deny him bail.
In an attempt to have him tried while he was on remand, the prosecution informed Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina that they were concerned that if he were freed, he would flee the country’s jurisdiction and might never show up for trial.
They relied on a written affidavit from a DCI officer detailing the length of time it took to track down Kairo. Kairo did, however, inform the court that he had cooperated ever since the complaints were filed.

He said he told the investigating officer he was at a nearby bank in a Nairobi shopping centre when they called him on Saturday.
His defence team also trashed a flight ticket that the prosecution used as evidence that Khalif Kairo intended to leave the country.
He said that the sole purpose of the case before the court was to damage his reputation and ruin his business.
Magistrate Onyina will rule on his bail application at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
