Interior CS, Police Bosses Skip Court Appearance Amid Abduction Inquiry

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja failed to attend a court summons on Wednesday.

The summons were issued in connection to a series of abductions that recently gripped the nation, sparking public outcry and concern over national security.

The High Court had summoned the officials to shed light on the mysterious disappearances of six youths in December.

These youths have since been reunited with their families under unclear circumstances.

Despite their absence, legal representation was provided, with CS Murkomen being represented by lawyer Danstan Omari, and lawyer Paul Nyamondi appearing on behalf of IG Kanja.

Similarly, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director General George Njao delegated the task to Registration and Licensing Manager Collins Kipkorir.

The abductions, which have been widely linked to critical social media posts about President William Ruto and the government, have led to increased public scrutiny.

Among the abducted were Digital cartoonist Gideon Kibet, known as Kibet Bull, his brother Ronny Kiplangat, Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Steve Mbisi, and Bernard Kavuli.

Five of these individuals resurfaced on January 6, appearing in various locations across the country.

Kiplangat, who was taken in Nairobi, was found in Machakos County.

Kavuli, abducted in Ngong, was later discovered in Kitale. Kibet Bull reemerged in Luanda, Vihiga County, after being taken in Nairobi on December 24, 2024.

However, the whereabouts of Steve Mbisi remain unknown, adding to the growing tension and unanswered questions.

None of the abductees have provided detailed accounts of their experiences or disclosed information about their captors.

This silence has only fueled speculation and concern about the involvement of national security agencies, despite IG Kanja’s earlier claims that the National Police Service (NPS) had no knowledge of the abductions.
