KISII, Kenya- Tens of thousands of supporters turned out in a pair of high‑profile political rallies in Nyamira County and Kisii County on Monday, as Fred Matiang’i, the Jubilee Party presidential aspirant, alongside Rigathi Gachagua of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and Eugene Wamalwa of the Democratic Action Party–Kenya, rallied supporters in a concerted effort to strengthen their political footing ahead of the 2027 general election.
Also present was former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
The moment was crowned by the installation of Matiang’i as the spokesperson of the Gusii Community.
From Nyamira, the team defied threats by armed goons who were patrolling the streets of Kisii town to host a massive rally.
“Fixing our nation begins with restoring the rule of law and upholding the dignity of every human life. It is a progressive nation that respects justice, constitutional order, and the will of the people. We stand firm against authoritarian leadership that undermines democracy and erodes the very foundations of our Constitution,” Matiang’i declared.
Our ultimate victory in the quest for the liberation of the people of Kenya is about The People! In the words of the people, the voice of a people oppressed but with the power of the ballot, there will be no alternative route for this regime so deliberately destroying our
Historic Endorsement in Nyamira
The expansive Ekerenyo Grounds in Nyamira County became the epicentre of a vibrant political congregation when local elders from the Abagusii community formally endorsed Matiang’i as their spokesman, in what was described by organisers as a historic moment in the region’s political landscape.
Speaking to the swelling crowd, Matiang’i expressed gratitude for the cultural and political mandate, pledging to unite the community under a transformative agenda.
“This is more than a position — it is a call to leadership and a mandate to unite our people under a clear agenda of representation, empowerment, and transformative progress,” he said.
Gachagua, addressing the delegates and thousands of supporters, celebrated the endorsement as a sign of consolidated opposition strength in the region.
“We thank you for endorsing our brother Dr Fred Matiang’i on a charge of the United Opposition to liberate our Nation! … The people have spoken, and welcome to the winning team,” Gachagua declared.
He added that, “our ultimate victory in the quest for the liberation of the people of Kenya is about the people.”
“In the words of the people, the voice of a people oppressed but with the power of the ballot, there will be no alternative route for this regime so deliberately destroying our economy and making Kenya a laughing stock in the league of nations.”

Rallying the Gusii Electorate in Kisii
Following the event in Nyamira, the delegation moved on to Kisii County, where another massive rally drew residents from across the wider Gusii region.
Supporters packed public spaces, responding to calls from senior opposition figures to participate in shaping the political discourse as the election cycle intensifies.
Eugene Wamalwa, representing the Democratic Action Party–Kenya, joined speeches that highlighted the importance of cohesion among opposition ranks.
He urged attendees to remain engaged and vocal in pursuit of what he described as “a shared vision for prosperity and accountability.”
The rallies showcased striking energy and a strong turnout, with organisers touting a show of unity among key opposition figures and community leaders.
PNU leader Peter Munya and Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya attended the events.
Analysts suggest these events reflect a growing political mobilisation within the Gusii region, home to nearly 900,000 registered voters, which has become a focus for parties seeking broader national support.
Asante Kisii 🙏
Political Implications and Voter Enthusiasm
The strong attendance at both Nyamira and Kisii is seen by political observers as a bellwether of shifting local allegiances and heightened political engagement, particularly in regions that have historically played key roles in national polls.
The prominent presence of multiple opposition leaders, publicly aligning behind shared messaging, underscores attempts to build momentum amid ongoing discussions on coalition leadership and candidate selection ahead of 2027.
The political momentum against President William Ruto is growing, with more regions joining the opposition.
“This regime tried to stop us. They sent goons, threw stones, and fired teargas, but the people of Kisii stood their ground. We made it to Gusii Stadium, and your courage shone through,” the wiper leader said.
“The resolve of Kenya’s people cannot be shaken. From Bomet, to Kisii, to every corner of this nation, we are rising together.”
