NAIROBI, Kenya- Residents of Mathigira Kenda village in Mavuria Ward, Mbeere South, are reeling in shock after the mutilated body of a man who had been reported missing was discovered hanging from a tree in nearby bushes.
The body was identified as that of Michael Fundi Njeru, 40, a well-known livestock handler frequently hired by traders to transport animals between markets and to slaughterhouses. Neighbours made the grim discovery just a short distance from his home.
Police suspect Fundi was killed elsewhere before his body was dumped and staged to appear as a suicide, a move investigators believe was meant to mislead authorities.
The body bore chilling signs of extreme violence.
His eyes had been gouged out, his private parts severed, and multiple stab wounds were visible.
Investigators also believe acid may have been used on parts of his body. Some remains had reportedly been mauled by dogs.
Fundi was last seen on Monday evening, in the Mbeere South murder investigation, leaving Kiritiri Market, where he had been working before he mysteriously disappeared.
In a dramatic twist, police have detained the deceased’s younger brother at Kiritiri Police Station in connection with the killing.

Authorities are also pursuing the victim’s elder sister and a close friend, who are suspected of having played a role in the murder and are currently on the run.
The incident has sparked fear and outrage among residents, who say insecurity in the area is worsening.
They are now calling on the government to establish a police post nearby to boost security and prevent similar incidents.
The body has been taken to Embu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary as police intensify investigations and continue a manhunt for the remaining suspects involved in the gruesome killing.
