TAITA TAVETA, Kenya – Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has credited strengthened cooperation between the government and private sector for accelerating Kenya’s tourism resurgence, saying the partnership is positioning the country as a top-tier global destination.
Speaking at the Jamhuri Tourism Week celebrations at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Miano said joint efforts have delivered tangible results — from increased international flight frequencies to the opening of new hotels across the country.
“Several international airlines have increased their frequencies, a clear indication that our partnership is working,” she said. “We have also witnessed new hospitality investments coming into the market. With such collaborations, we are well on our way to elevating Kenya’s brand to global standards.”

Miano noted that the cooperation played a pivotal role in the government’s recent review of the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) system, which has significantly eased entry for foreign visitors.
Earlier this year, Kenya abolished visa requirements for all African countries and most Caribbean nations, eliminating ETA applications, lengthy forms and visa fees for eligible travelers.
“Travel to Kenya has become much easier,” she said, adding that work is progressing on the Open Skies Policy in partnership with industry players to further enhance connectivity.

The CS encouraged private sector stakeholders to use the ongoing Tourism Week to submit additional proposals ahead of President William Ruto’s Jamhuri Day address on Friday, where major sector announcements are anticipated.
“We urge the private sector to take advantage of this week. Bring more suggestions so that we can present them to the President,” Miano said.
