NAIROBI, KENYA- Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata will be away from physical office duties for about one month after sustaining a heel tendon injury in Nairobi, the county government has announced.
According to an official statement, the injury occurred on Wednesday when Kang’ata tripped while attending a Nutrition International meeting in Nairobi.
The organisation, supported by the Canadian government, works with counties on nutrition and public health programmes.
Medical personnel assessed the governor and advised that he refrain from physical engagements for approximately one month to allow for full recovery.
During this period, Deputy Governor Stephen Munania will represent Kang’ata at functions that require a physical presence.
The County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Prof. Kiarie Mwaura, will oversee other designated duties as necessary. The county government also confirmed that the governor will continue to participate in official meetings virtually from February 23, 2026.
The statement thanked residents and stakeholders for their continued support and wished the governor a speedy recovery.
This absence comes as Murang’a County continues ongoing programmes in areas including nutrition, health services and community development. Deputy leadership arrangements aim to ensure continuity of governance and service delivery throughout the governor’s recovery period.
