NAIROBI, Kenya – The National Police Service (NPS) will conduct a nationwide recruitment exercise for police constables on November 17, 2025, as part of efforts to boost the country’s security capacity and strengthen community policing.
In a notice, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the exercise will be held simultaneously in all counties across 422 designated centres, with applicants expected to report by 8:00 a.m. sharp.
Senior police officers and representatives from relevant government agencies will supervise the recruitment to ensure transparency and fairness, the IG said.
“The National Police Service recruitment drive is free and open to all eligible and qualified candidates. Engaging in bribery or any other corrupt practice with the intent to influence the process is illegal and punishable by law,” Kanja warned.
The announcement follows a recent High Court ruling affirming that the Inspector General—and not the National Police Service Commission (NPSC)—holds exclusive authority over recruitment, training, promotions, and disciplinary control within the police service.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, hold a valid national ID, and have scored at least a D+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including a D+ in English or Kiswahili.
Male candidates must be at least 5 feet 8 inches tall, while female candidates must be 5 feet 3 inches and not pregnant during the recruitment or training period.
All applicants must be physically and medically fit, with no criminal record or pending charges.
Kanja said National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the requirements are encouraged to apply, noting that their prior training would be an added advantage.
Application Process
Prospective candidates are required to download and complete application forms available on official government websites or collect them from the nearest Huduma Centre.
Applicants should present themselves at their designated centres on the recruitment day with both originals and photocopies of their academic certificates, national ID, birth certificate, and, if applicable, NYS discharge certificate showing a minimum conduct rating of “Good.”
The NPS assured that all original documents will be returned before applicants leave the recruitment venue.
Members of the public have been urged to report any cases of corruption or malpractice during the exercise through toll-free hotlines 999, 911, 112, or via #FichuaKwaDCI (0800-722-203).
Kanja reaffirmed that all reports would be handled confidentially, adding that the service remains committed to a merit-based and transparent recruitment process.
