SIAYA, Kenya — Oburu Oginga Odinga has announced that elders from the Jaramogi family and the larger Jokawuor clan have symbolically crowned him for national leadership, describing the move as a continuation of the Oginga–Odinga political legacy.
In a statement shared Sunday, the Siaya Senator said the traditional endorsement represented continuity, wisdom, and the enduring influence of the family in Kenya’s democratic journey.
He said he accepted the responsibility, mindful of the historical weight associated with the lineage.
“This sacred, traditional endorsement is far more than a family milestone; it is a profound signal of continuity, wisdom, and the enduring legacy of the Oginga and Odinga lineage in Kenya’s democratic journey,” he said.
Odinga added that he would carry the mantle with diligence and commitment to national unity and civic responsibility. He framed the endorsement as a cultural affirmation of leadership rather than a formal political declaration, but emphasized its broader significance in shaping public engagement.
The senator also addressed the reported disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, calling for a transparent investigation into the matter.
“I have urgently called upon the government, through the relevant investigative bodies, to look into this matter with transparency,” he stated.
Tuju was reported missing after his vehicle was found abandoned in Karen, Nairobi, with family members saying they have been unable to reach him since Saturday. The incident has triggered concern among political leaders and prompted calls for authorities to expedite investigations.
Odinga said his leadership commitment would focus on social justice and civic responsibility, urging unity as the country navigates emerging political and governance issues.
“As we move forward, I remain steadfast in my commitment to championing social justice and civic responsibility for all our citizens,” he said.
