NAIROBI, Kenya – ODM leader Oburu Odinga has urged Kenyans to embrace unity, dialogue, and peace as the country heads into 2026, in his end-of-year statement.
Oburu reflected on the challenges of 2025, describing it as a year that “tested our strength as a people,” following the death of his brother and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
The effects of Raila’s passing are now emerging as the party faces factions and debates over its future, including whether to support the re-election of President William Ruto in 2027.
“The year ahead calls upon us to reject division and embrace dialogue, to choose peace over conflict, and to put the interests of the nation above personal or political gain. Progress is possible when we walk together,” Oburu said.
Happy and Prosperous New Year 2026. God bless Kenya.
The ODM leader emphasised that the party will enter 2026 guided by a vision for a Kenya that works for all.
“May this year bring peace to our homes, opportunity to our youth, dignity to our workers, and hope to every corner of our republic,” he added.
Oburu’s remarks come as ODM continues to navigate post-Raila leadership challenges, while also considering its strategy for the 2027 general elections.
The leader’s statement highlights the need for unity and collective decision-making within ODM during a period of unprecedented internal divisions.
“A New Year is a time of musing, reconditioning and re-established dedication to Kenya, the nation we love,” he said.
