NAIROBI, Kenya — Secular musician Octopizzo has aimed at ODM’s leadership, warning that internal decay, not external opposition, poses the greatest threat to political movements.
Reacting to ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga’s statement disowning Oketch Salah, Octopizzo described the move as symptomatic of a broader moral erosion within the party.
“There is something tragic about watching a movement lose its moral compass not because of external enemies, but because of internal appetites,” he said.
In his statement, the musician highlighted how small compromises can snowball into a culture where loyalty shifts from vision to personal gain.
“When deception becomes strategy, and handouts become ideology, the web tightens quietly, thread by thread, until even its architects cannot move freely within it,” Octopizzo observed.
He added that the decay starts with minor deals, grows through selective silence, and culminates in leaders publicly advocating reform while privately prioritizing survival.
“The real danger is not opposition from outside. It is decay from within when short-term handouts outweigh long-term purpose,” he said.
Octopizzo warned that history is unforgiving to movements that forget their founding principles.
His comments come amid ongoing debate within ODM following internal disputes and leadership controversies.
Salah also issued his own statement addressing Wanga directly, insisting his engagements were motivated by a desire to “popularise and strengthen ODM” and reaffirming his loyalty to the party’s legacy, particularly to the late Raila Odinga, whom he described as “Baba.”
He clarified that all resources used in his political activities were his personal funds and not drawn from party finances.
