MOMBASA, Kenya — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is celebrating two decades since its formation with a series of events that began on Friday and will run through Sunday at the historic Mama Ngina Waterfront.
In a statement on its official social media pages, the party announced the anniversary theme: “Lero ni Lero #HonouringTheLegacy ODM at 20”, signalling the start of activities to commemorate its 20-year political journey.
The celebrations are designed to reflect on ODM’s growth, achievements, and its pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s governance and reform agenda.
Party leaders, members, and supporters are engaging in activities that honour the struggles and contributions of its members over the years.
Friday’s programme kicked off with an ODM Disability League breakfast from 7 am to 9 am, followed by parallel summits for the party’s women and youth wings from 10 am to 1 pm.
The day ended with a youth concert that ran from 6 pm to midnight.
Senior ODM leaders in attendance included party chairperson Gladys Wanga, Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir. EALA MP Winnie Odinga also graced the occasion.
Saturday’s celebrations focus on Raila Odinga’s vision, achievements, and political legacy, with activities scheduled from 7:30 am to 2 pm at Mama Ngina Waterfront.
Members will recommit to safeguarding the democratic gains achieved over two decades of ODM’s political engagement.
The evening will feature the ODM Founders’ Dinner at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and an inter-religious thanksgiving service celebrating Raila Odinga’s leadership and the party’s journey. President William Ruto is expected to join the festivities later.
ODM, which has played a central role in Kenya’s political landscape, continues to maintain an active grassroots network and influence national dialogue as it positions itself for the next phase of Kenya’s political evolution.
