NAIROBI, Kenya – A petition has been filed seeking the removal of Isaac Ruto as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), raising fresh questions about confidence in the country’s key judicial oversight body.
According to the petition, Isaac Ruto’s continued tenure under the current circumstances has allegedly undermined the legitimacy of the JSC and eroded public trust in the judiciary and other independent constitutional institutions.
The petitioner argues that the credibility of the JSC — which plays a central role in the appointment, discipline and oversight of judges and judicial officers — depends heavily on public confidence in the integrity and suitability of its members.
The petition, which has been formally forwarded to Parliament for consideration, contends that failure to address the concerns raised would further weaken confidence in the commission at a time when the judiciary is under increased public scrutiny.
While the petition does not delve into the full merits of the allegations, it maintains that the issues surrounding Isaac Ruto’s continued service are serious enough to warrant parliamentary intervention and possible removal from office.
Under the Constitution, members of the Judicial Service Commission can be removed through a petition process if their conduct is deemed to undermine the commission’s independence, integrity or public standing.
Parliament is now expected to review the petition and determine whether it meets the threshold for further action in line with established legal and constitutional procedures.
