NAIROBI, Kenya – Detectives in Mwea East have arraigned a woman linked to a fraudulent scheme that defrauded members of the public of Sh3 million under the pretense of securing employment in the National Police Service.
The suspect, identified as Mercy Prudence Mbaika Mutie, allegedly promised three complainants that she could facilitate their recruitment into the police.
Believing her claims, the victims handed over large sums of money, after which Mutie reportedly went into hiding and ceased all communication.
Following investigations by detectives from DCI Mwea East, Mutie was traced, arrested, and arraigned at Wang’uru Law Courts.

She faces charges of conspiracy to defraud contrary to Section 317 of the Penal Code, and three counts of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 313.
She was released on Sh500,000 cash bail with a surety of the same amount.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has cautioned the public against engaging individuals claiming to influence recruitment into government institutions.
The DCI reminded citizens that recruitment into the National Police Service is transparent, merit-based, and strictly free of charge.
