Ruto Adviser Defends Junet Mohamed, Calls Attacks ‘Petty Jealousy’ and Tabloid Politics

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Renowned Kenyan scholar and President William Ruto’s adviser Prof Makau Mutua has mounted a fierce defence of National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, dismissing recent attacks against the ODM powerbroker as petty, juvenile and driven by jealousy.

In a strongly worded statement, Prof Mutua said Junet’s critics had long sought to undermine him but were unable to do so while Raila Odinga (“Baba”) was alive, due to Junet’s close relationship with the veteran opposition leader.

“Those fighting Junet Mohamed were dying to do so out of petty and juvenile jealousies when Baba was alive, but couldn’t, because he was only one of two or three of Mzee’s most trusted aides and confidantes,” Prof Mutua said.

‘Never Betrayed Baba’

Prof Mutua described Junet Mohamed as unfailingly loyal, saying he never betrayed Raila Odinga or worked against his interests—unlike others who are now critical of him.

“Unlike them, Junet never betrayed Baba or stabbed him in the back. Baba trusted him innately. He was loyal to a fault,” he added.

The remarks come amid rising political tensions within ODM and renewed scrutiny of Junet’s influence as Kenya’s opposition navigates internal rifts and shifting political alliances.

‘Brilliant Political Strategist’

The presidential adviser praised Junet as one of Kenya’s most honourable and capable political minds, crediting him with exceptional strategic skills.

“He’s a brilliant political strategist. I don’t know many politicians who can hold a candle to him,” Prof Mutua said.

He further predicted that Junet’s political fortunes would remain strong despite the criticism.

“His future in Kenya’s politics is stellar, and his star will only continue to shine even more brightly.”

Warning Over ‘Silly Tabloid Stories’

Prof Mutua warned Junet’s opponents against what he described as sponsored tabloid attacks, arguing that efforts to tarnish the legislator’s image would ultimately fail.

“His opponents and enemies need to chill and let him serve Kenyans. Sponsoring silly tabloid stories about the son of Mohamed is a doomed mission,” he said.

Junet, the Suna East MP and ODM parliamentary heavyweight, remains a central figure in opposition strategy and national political realignments.
