NAIROBI, Kenya — Principal Secretary for Basic Education Julius Bitok has expressed deep sorrow following a road accident along Murang’a Road involving a matatu and teachers who had participated in the KUPPET Nairobi Branch elections at City Primary School.
In a statement, PS Bitok conveyed condolences to the family of the teacher who tragically lost their life in the crash, and extended thoughts and prayers to the injured.
“On behalf of the State Department for Basic Education, we share in your pain and stand with you during this moment of profound loss,” he said, emphasizing solidarity with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), the broader teaching fraternity, and the education community.

PS Bitok said the department will continue monitoring the situation closely while collaborating with relevant authorities to gather detailed information about the circumstances of the incident.
“We wish a speedy recovery to all those injured and offer a hand of support to the affected community,” he added.
The accident comes amid ongoing concerns about road safety in Kenya, where collisions involving public service vehicles continue to pose significant risks to commuters and pedestrians.
“May God grant comfort to the bereaved family and strength to all the affected,” PS Bitok concluded.
Authorities are yet to release a full report on the number of injured individuals and their current condition, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
